FAQ

  • What kinds of things can a professional organizer help me with?

I help my clients with a wide variety of home and office projects, including closets, kitchens, paper and desk clutter, filing systems, packing and unpacking for a move, and more.  There is no "official list" of projects which I can assist with - the sky's the limit! Just let me know what your areas of concern are, and I'll let you know how I can help. My greatest priority is giving you the skills to achieve and maintain a more harmonious way of life, one with less stress and disorder and more peace of mind.  Get more information on the kinds of projects I can help with here.

  • I’m really embarrassed at how messy my house is. Will you still work with me even if I am extremely disorganized?

Absolutely!  As a professional organizer, my job is to help you overcome your organizational challenges without judgment.  If you’re chronically disorganized, you’re not alone, and it’s not your fault.  It only means that no one ever taught you the right skills.  I realize that the decision to organize your home, your office and your world can be a little daunting—and it takes tremendous courage to take that first step.  When you hire me, you can be confident that I’ll treat you with warmth, respect and understanding as we work together to solve your personal organizing dilemmas.

  • How long will my organizing project take?

There really is no single answer to that question.  How long your project takes to complete depends on a number of factors, including the size of the space (i.e. closet) we’re organizing, how much material/items will be organized (i.e. clothes or paperwork), and the specific kinds of choices you make along the way.  As an experienced professional organizer, I know how to work efficiently while still paying the utmost attention to detail.  Together, we’ll work hard to transform your space—but we’ll have fun doing it!

  • Where in the country do you provide your professional organizing services and how far will you travel?

I am based in the Manhattan / NYC area and will travel to clients anywhere in Manhattan, Long Island, Westchester, Connecticut and New Jersey.

For clients who live outside of this region but still wish to work with me, special travel arrangements can often be made.

  • Do you offer your professional organizing services to anyone who needs them?

Although I work with a diverse array of clients from all walks of life, I reserve the right to choose with whom I work and may turn down a project for any number of reasons.

  • How soon can we start working together?

Chances are, when you contact me about my professional organizing services, I'll be juggling several clients with a variety of projects!  How quickly I can start working with you on your project depends on how busy I am at that point in time. I always make an effort to get started with new clients as quickly as my schedule allows.

  • It seems like I’ve already tried every “organizing product” sold in stores—and I am still as disorganized as ever. How is your approach different?

Research is an integral part of my organizing approach, and I tailor my services to fit each individual client. Rather than choosing out-of-the-box solutions, I offer innovative, thoughtful options that take into account my clients’ lifestyles, home/office décors, and personalities. You’ll never see me using conventional plastic containers and tubs that can be found at department or discount stores.  In fact, I will often buy a product that is made for another purpose; then use it in a creative way to arrange your paperwork and personal items. My goal is to create an attractive and constructive organizational system that you can live with and maintain on a daily basis.

  • Shouldn't I be able to get organized on my own - without a professional organizer?

Yes—and that’s exactly what I help you to do!  Most people find it difficult to get organized without some form of support. My job as a professional organizer is to help you change unproductive habits and learn easy organizing strategies that work with your lifestyle and personality.  I lay the foundation for your future success by designing an effective system that you can continue using long after we part ways.

As said by the Chinese philosopher, Lao Tzu:  “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”  There’s a lot of truth in this little bit of wisdom. When people know better, they do better.

  • How much do your professional organizing services cost? What if I’m on a tight budget?

I charge for my services by the job, not by the hour.  So you can be confident in knowing the cost of hiring me up front—no surprises.  When you contact me, I’ll provide a free consultation which involves visiting your home or office and talking with you about your particular organizing challenges.  After that, I will determine a flat fee for my services which covers all of our work together—from start to finish.  Once I give you my fee, you can decide whether or not it fits your budget.

If you decide my fee is not affordable for you, don’t worry.  I will work with you to tailor a solution that still gives you support and guidance for your organizing issues while staying within your budget limitations.

  • Do you require a percentage of your fee up front?

Like most service professionals, I do require payment of half of the project fee before we start working together, payable by check.  The balance will be due once we have completed our work together, within a 10-day grace period.  If you decide to cancel the project at any point, I am entitled to retain the deposit as payment for work performed up to that time.

  • Do you require a contract before you begin work?

Yes. I require a signed Letter of Agreement (LOA) which confirms our business arrangement and project fee. Once we discuss your project scope and cost, I will send or email you a letter outlining the job—and all you need to do is sign it and mail it back to me.  Once I have the signed LOA and deposit, we’re ready to get organized!
